The Guy

The Guy has two primary characters, Tall and The Guy. The deeper into an affair they go the more they find life is a messy tapestry of experiences. This poetic tale weaves together threads of the intricate and profound impact they have on each other. In the end, The Guy becomes a transformative force in Tall taking control of her life again. The enigmatic characters leave the reader feeling introspective and contemplative on the universal path to finding love.

Puts you right there in the middle of their tangly, tingly relationship. No need for it to be book-length, the free verse flows over and through you like the lovers’ feeling for each other. Loved the twists and turns of life as it’s lived.

“The Guy” by Marilyn Wolf was my first foray into free verse. This is the journey of one woman through love, friendship, loss and taking control again. The language is colorful and descriptive which is interspersed with space and line drawings. In many ways I found the spaces as powerful as the language. It is a book that has continued to follow me in thought and hope.
